“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be?”

- Marianne Williamson

Who We Are

In 1999, the Pearls of Service Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit organization serving communities in southeastern Michigan. Our vision was simple but ambitious: to enhance the lives of women and minorities in our community.

What We Do

The Pearls of Service Foundation, through its programming and grant making, seeks to address the systemic barriers preventing minority women and children from reaching their full economic and educational opportunities.  The Foundation works to ameliorate the societal inequities facing families in marginalized communities.  Through funding college scholarships, elementary through high school educational enrichment programs, and family strengthening efforts, the Foundation, with the assistance of our Community Partners, seeks to level the playing field for under-served residents in our community. Some of the Foundation’s Programs include:

  • Family Strengthening: Annually providing food, clothing, school supplies and academic-related programs to enhance the lives of children and families in need
  • Educational Attainment: Awarding annual college scholarships under the AKATeen and Pearls of Service Scholarship programs. Over $100,00 has been awarded

Executive Board

The Foundation's Board of Directors is made up professionals and experts in the fields of education, banking, law, health care, non-profits and management, among others.  The members of this volunteer Board bring expertise that focuses our programs and provides us with tentacles in the business, government and philanthropic communities that help us deliver.

Letter from the President

Carol Brown Turner, President

Dear Pearls of Service Foundation Members and Supporters:

The Board of Directors of the Pearls of Service Foundation, Incorporated® (PSF) are proud of the support of our dedicated membership to advance the mission of the foundation in the South Oakland County and throughout Metropolitan Detroit. Through generous contributions we have distributed $44,950 in scholarships and provided over $7,000 in community assistance to uplift, educate, feed and develop our future leaders. Thank you for the support you’ve given us in 2018.

This year, we developed a strategic plan to increase fundraising efforts, enhance operational efficiencies, award more scholarships and promote the impactful work of the Foundation. We updated our website to emphasize the PSF mission and show how we support community service. We spread the word through our social media presence. The Foundation held two fundraisers and kicked off the PSF Program and Scholarship Giving Campaign. We increased the scholarship fund to help more students pursue their academic goals.  Operationally, we started reviewing and updating our procedures.

As we move into 2019, PSF is committed to expand our engagement with community through our partnership with Pi Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated®.  We will remain resolute in growing our corporate and private donations and strengthening our operational effectiveness.

On Behalf of the Board of Directors, we appreciate your generosity and look forward to your continued support as we strive to impact more families, children and schools in the Metropolitan Detroit area.

Sincerely,

Carol Brown Turner, President
