The Anglin/Birks Memorial Scholarship

The "Anglin/Birks Memorial Scholarship" was established in 1999 by the Education Committee of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® -  Pi Tau OmegaChapter.  The Anglin/Birks Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the life and legacy of two true champions of youth.  They both dedicated their lives to educating and removing barriers for young people and helping them realize their greatness to pursue their dreams and impact their communities. This scholarship is awarded annually towards tuition and or related educational expenses. The applicant must be a junior enrolled as an undergraduate student majoring in Education.

Bonita Ruffin-Anglin was a transfer student member from Alaska.  She was very involved in any committee she worked on within the chapter.  She was the Regional Sharing and Caring Recipient Award winner and spokesperson for the American Red Cross.

Avonnelle Birks was a very quiet and unassuming person always ready to serve, laid back and reserved.  She was an avid golfer and active with the Links and Pi Tau Omega Chapter.  She was a charter member as well as the sister of the first president of the chapter.

Because both of these phenomenal women were educators, this scholarship was named after them.
